Review of Reconfigurement
Presently, the living conditions of people have greatly improved when compared to the past centuries. This has led to an increase in the life expectancy of people in many countries. Those who are approaching their old ages (65 and above) should use new and reformed strategies when planning for their retirement. Reconfigurement is a book written by an experienced financial advisor, E.Alan Fleischauer, to help people plan for their retirement by giving them all the possible options. Some information is given with statistics to clarify and show the reader the magnitude of the matter.
The book starts by showing the need to rethink the traditional approaches to retirement and what inspired the author to write this book. Then he goes on to show the importance of income in the reconfigurement process. Career assessment is then talked about and how it can be done with the help of different websites. He goes on to talk about life insurance policies, their types and history. Social security is also talked about and some myths surrounding this topic. He goes on to talk about investing and the available investment options. Qualified plans and their benefits are also found in this book. Special programs, like Medicare, and long-term care polices designed to look after the aged people are also discussed. Wills, estates, trusts and college plans are also talked about. The book ends with references to other books on the topics discussed in this book.
What I liked most about this book is the style of writing. The author writes in a way that the reader may think that he is talking directly to him/her. He considers the readers’ emotions and tries to keep the book interesting even when what he is talking about is not. He breaks subtopics with jokes. These jokes are not very funny, but are interesting and related to the topics being discussed in that chapter.
There are stories that clearly bring out what the author is talking about. Some of the knowledge given in this book is practical, and the author gives the reader time to practice what he has taught. What I disliked most about this book is that the author does not clearly show what the chapters are all about at their beginnings. I think it would have been better if the chapters were clearly labelled with what they are talking about. It is well-edited. I came across only one error as I was reading.
A 4 out of 4 stars rating is suitable for this book. I rate it like this because of the stories used by the author. I recommend it to people who are approaching retirement age because it will help them while planning for retirement.
