Review of A Dream For Peace
A Dream for Peace, written by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, is a non-fiction book about the author's story. He was born in a small town in Constantine province in northern Algeria. The author became a freedom fighter in Algeria, but he faced racial discrimination while fighting for independence in Algeria; he knew that his primary motive was to fight for independence. Dr. Ghoulem Berrah was a professor of virology at the University of Yale School of Medicine before he became a diplomat. He studied in France and was arrested in Spain for his activism. He traveled to China and the United States to study. He was concerned with the lack of peace in the world, which made him accept an offer from the president of Ivory Coast to serve in Africa. The story is inspiring and encourages readers to read it.
I liked several aspects of this book that made me enjoy reading it. I liked how the author told his story in this book. He wrote it with an idealist tone and a bigger picture. It makes the book exhaustive with details that touch on the twentieth century describing how French colonizers erased Algeria culture. The book was detailed in every aspect, making the reader enjoy reading it. Finally, I liked how inspiring the book was since it encourages readers to find what they think is right. The author faced hard choices, but he still fought for independence for Algeria even when the odds were against him.
I did not find anything serious to dislike about the book. The only thing that was off about the book was the unnecessary details that the author provided in the book. He would provide too personal stories that I won't list since they would give a spoiler. That was the only setback, but everything else was great, and I enjoyed reading it.
I rate A Dream for Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah four out of four stars. The book was explicitly edited; hence, I found no errors. It had many positive aspects and only one negative aspect, which did not carry too much weight. Having been almost perfect, I don't think deducting a star because of that one negative aspect is the right thing to do; hence, the rating.
I recommend this book to anyone interested in the fight for peace after colonization. It would be helpful since the author discusses how he fought for peace and independence in Algeria. It is also an inspirational book meaning people interested in inspirational books should read it since the author shows how he went against the odds to fight for peace.
