Review of When Life Doesn't Turn Out The Way We Hoped It Would? Volume 2
When Life Doesn't Turn Out The Way We Hoped It Would? Volume 2 is the second volume of three books written by Tom Wick. In this memoir, Tom tells us about his experience in the US Navy. Tom tells readers what it feels like to live on a boat, including the traveling and work life he gave in to. Read Tom Wick's When Life Doesn't Turn Out The Way We Hoped It Would? Volume 2 as he navigates and transforms his life on the sea.
This book is the continuation of the first volume in which the author vividly described his early life and the traumatic experiences he had to pass through at a very young age. Now Tom has graduated from a correctional facility for his dysfunctionalities, and in this book, he introduces his readers to his new life, which involves sea life and naval activities. Let me break it to you; I'm not a fan of the navy, although I appreciate what they do. But this book isn't generally one I would sort for since I have no interest in it, and it will be difficult for me to relate to.
However, that wasn't the case for this book. I appreciate Tom for including colorful pictures, which better conveyed Tom's story and made it more realistic and relatable. The way he describes the activities, historical facts, culture, people, and even the topography of the places he explored during that period, made me feel like I can easily locate those places if I ever take a trip there. The readers get to experience various cultures and backgrounds through Tom's eyes. Before I came across this book, I had no knowledge whatsoever regarding the navy. But thanks to Tom's extensive knowledge in this field, I'm able to learn about their activities, including the naval ranking, training, naval stations, duties, and even the terminologies used by them.
Also, you need not worry about understanding what has happened in volume one of the book series. This book can be read as a standalone. The author benefits readers by making references to information from the first book in the series. The author's life was not all rosy after his time in the correctional facility; he was further faced with some troubling experiences that led to nightmares, and more you will find out after reading this book.
There was nothing I could tag as out of place or below standard in this book. The author left no room for disapproval in this work, and I love every bit of it.
Furthermore, this book was exceptionally edited since I found no typographical or grammatical errors in this work. Therefore, I rate When Life Doesn't Turn Out The Way We Hoped It Would? Volume 2 4 out of 4 stars.
Since this book contains an in-depth explanation and knowledge of the navy's life and its working, I recommend this book to fans of the navy and anyone interested in keeping up with Tom Wick's life after having read the first volume of the book series.
