Reconfigurement is a short, interesting book by E. Alan Fleischauer. Alan is an award-winning author and poet. He is married and currently lives in Minnesota.

Alan isn’t just an author. He is also a financial and retirement planner with a client base and lots of experience. In this book, Alan shares some interesting views on retirement and even clarifies some myths and misconceptions about retirement. Things like immediate annuities, social security, and other retirement-related concepts were broken down in a way that the average reader would have an in-depth understanding of them. The author also included some retirement tips that I believe some people would find useful.

Retirement isn’t taught in schools. This makes retirement and the terminologies surrounding it convoluted. However, Alan breaks things down, so anyone can understand, and he does this in a very light, hearty, and jovial writing manner that I liked very much. From time to time, Alan made side jokes that lightened the mood, and a very good example is when he joked about living until he was 120 years old. I also like that, despite being very jovial, he didn’t digress or deviate from the topic at hand. I love the overall structure and length of the book because if it was any longer, it would have become tedious or boring to read. I also like that the author included stories like that of Frank and Ann. Their story is a good example of why everyone should have sufficient financial education so that they can make better decisions in their life after retirement or in the days leading up to retirement.

There was nothing to dislike about this book. The author wrote straightforwardly, I didn’t come across any errors, and the author did a great job making a book about retirement somewhat fun to read. I enjoyed learning what the author had to say. Also, I believe that a professional edited this book exceptionally well. The only problem I have with this book is that most readers who aren’t from the same country as the author may not find this book as helpful as those who are, but this is just my opinion.

I rate Reconfigurement 4 out of 4 stars because financial education is something everyone needs regardless of their college degrees. Also, Alan did a fantastic job writing this book and making it less intimidating than some other books financial books. I recommend this book for adults, but it is a must-read for prospective retirees and those who are already retired.

I like the part where you said ,"retirement isn't thought in schools". We are all have to at a point in our lives, make plans for retirement. And when it turns out that we are under prepared for it. It has effects which we might regret.
Therefore, I'd urge every reader to pick up this jook and plan ahead for their life.
Your review was insightful.
Kudos!

This book, to me was quite a technical read. I had to reread several pages multiple times before understanding it. I wish three author had tried to make reading it as easy as ABC for the less knowledgeable person like myself. Would have made a lot of difference for me especially since it is supposed to enlighten the reader. The book was good but could be better.

I appreciate the author writing a book like this as a reminder. Young people like us frequently neglect retirement planning. I needed a wake-up call after reading this book.
