Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer
In the modern age, more and more Americans are living longer due to several factors such as improved healthcare and safer living and working conditions. It is not a secret that in the last ten years 30 years have been added to the average American lifespan. Everywhere one looks the media is trying to sell us the best way we can deal with getting older and oftentimes these resources fall short.
The author of this book has been a financial advisor for more than 20 years and although they advocate for some of the messages that exist about saving as much as we can and investing as much as we can, they also provide a program in which they believe can be the missing part of the equation. They provide advice and strategies for planning for life after retirement. In the past life expectancy was very low but now since people live for many years past retirement it is important to plan for that last phase of one’s life.
There are several things in this book that I liked. One of them is that the author goes into detail while providing advice about managing funds for retirement. For example, they discuss various insurance policies and how they can help in times of need. Managing funds requires strategy and careful planning when it comes to assets and career assessment. Figuring out how to move from one phase of life to another seamlessly requires knowledge and foresight. This was a great book and I did not find anything I did not like about it.
I’m not usually fond of this genre of books as I often find them dull and uninteresting but, in this book, the author manages to capture one’s attention with several stories and his open approach to strategizing for one’s future. He makes sure that they deliver the message but still make it fun. It’s a mostly instructional read which engages the reader and encourages them to self-reflect and choose which route of asset management they want to take when it comes to planning for retirement. It is hard to get bored when reading this book. Finances may be a touchy subject to discuss in many households but this book gives easy-to-digest pointers and techniques on how to go about it when planning for retirement.
I rate this book four out of four stars as I genuinely enjoyed reading it. It contains diverse topics that many readers can identify with and it also emphasizes the importance of planning ahead and choosing careers we enjoy along the way. It is also a well-edited and well-written book. I would recommend this book to anyone who is in the workforce as it is never too early to start planning for retirement.
