According to estimates from the U.S. federal census, 4.9 million children are being raised by their grandparents. The fact that GRG (Grandparents Raising Grandkids) is currently a popular trend is not news. This book serves as a practical guide for grandparents caring for their grandchildren due to unforeseen circumstances.

So, You’re Raising Your Grandkids! Tested Tips, Research, & Real-Life Stories to Make Your Life Easier by Harriet Hodgson is an interesting and informative memoir where the author shares both her and her husband’s experiences as they struggled to successfully raise their fifteen-year-old twin grandkids. Losing a loved one, let alone four, is terrible. But when Harriet lost her divorced daughter, the true struggle began. Her early childhood education bachelor’s degree needed to be put to use right away. Come along as she recounts her stories.

I loved this book because it was enlightening and educational. The author went into detail about several topics, including how to cope with grief. She also provided several answers to questions that would put people in similar circumstances at ease. And walked readers through the steps that needed to be taken to maintain a stable lifestyle as grandparents. From this book, I have been able to gather that some of the things that could result in grandparents raising grandkids are: the death of parents, drug addiction, high divorce rate, teen pregnancies, and lots more. The author’s writing style was conversational. It was almost as if we were old friends sharing our experiences over a meal.

Another thing I enjoyed about this book was the beautiful family pictures the author shared. A lot of books and articles were referred to. The themes contained in this book were love, grief, determination, and emotional pain. There was nothing I disliked about this book. I found it to be exceptionally well-edited, as I couldn’t detect any errors in it. Therefore, I rate So, You’re Raising Your Grandkids! Tested Tips, Research, & Real-Life Stories to Make Your Life Easier by Harriet Hodgson 4 out of 4 stars.

Overall, I believe this book would be helpful to a lot of people, not just grandparents. The author did a lot of research because most of the information provided in this book was accurate. I recommend it to everyone, especially grandparents who are raising their grandkids. Also, students at the university taking a course on caregiving or anything related would find this book beneficial and inspiring.

This is an uncommon knowledge. Having to deal with unforeseen situations can be disheartening at times, especially after the loss of a loved one. This is a great addition to one’s knowledge.

Such an experience would be enjoyable. Grandparents and grandkids have a lot of things in common and are their favorite persons. This book is more a family book so I may not be reading it soon. Nice review.

My grandmother played a very important role during my first years and as a toddler. I can only imagine how difficult it was for her to deal with a child at an advanced age but she pulled it off. Grandparents do need support if they are going to start parenting at an old age because it is just as difficult as parenting with no experince, maybe even more difficult. thank you for this insightful review.

The stress of the corporate world give little room for parents to accurately look after their children. Their is a trend which most parents by sending their kids to their grandparents at intervals. Your Grandkids! by Harriet Hodgson is a great book that captures this trend.
