Is it possible to live for the future in the world of now?

This book, Reconfigurement, answers that question. It provides a detailed explanation of why we need to plan ahead for retirement and start to configure our lives at whatever stage we are at right now. It veers away from the traditional "number-oriented" approach and offers a new perspective that takes into consideration the new realities of being retired. In this new financial concept, strategies are introduced to make sure that pre-and post-retirement activities are incorporated, in order for anyone to enjoy their retirement and have "gainful employment" beyond retirement age.

Reading this book compelled me to think about the course of life I am currently trudging through. It forced me to self-reflect about my financial decisions and made me consider whether these decisions could help sustain my needs when the time of retirement comes. As a bonus, it also helped me examine whether the career I am currently building is appropriate for my strengths and personality. The result is not quite surprising as it validates my feeling of being mismatched with my current job. But, as an INFP-T, the career change could wait because I lacked the confidence to pursue it now.

The strength of the book lies in the writing style of the author. As someone who often gets distracted, his usage of memes and funny quotes as breaks in between topics worked on me. It kept me from getting bored as I took in copious amounts of information that was foreign to me. Also, the way the book is written is like having the author talk directly to the reader. It feels like E. Alan Fleischauer is having a conversation with me and he is giving me financial advice.

The incommodity of reading this book is that it gets more USA-centered from the middle part towards the end. I have stated above that it sounds foreign to me for this particular reason. However, readers living outside the country should not feel discouraged from reading this book, as the concepts presented can still be applied across borders.

As such, I rate this book 4 out of 4. The concept of reconfigurement can help everyone and it can save them from future discomfort as it takes into consideration the new trends and realities of the retired community. I recommend it to anyone, but most especially to workers in the USA. They can fully benefit from this book, as the strategies are centered on their social security and financial markets.
