In his book Reconfigurement, E. Alan Fleischauer brings his financial knowledge and wisdom to help his readers plan for the dreaded retirement period. With numerous sources and information from different professionals, the author adds his experience to help his readers reconfigure how they need to approach retirement. The book offers a variety of ways that we can approach retirement aside from traditional methods. He aims to approach retirement from a different perspective hence the title of the book.

Divided into Thirteen chapters, Alan covers distinct topics in each chapter that he deems crucial to retirement preparation such as career assessments, insurance, social security, investing, long-term care, how to make retirement plans, and how to plan for life after we are gone. This structure of the book allows the author to tackle each distinct topic separately and in detail, hence making the book easy to understand and a comprehensive outlook on reconfiguring life in preparation for retirement.

I love that the book is well-researched with links and resources for gathering more information on certain topics. The book is well-written and articulated. Despite the technical nature of the book, it is quite an easy and engaging read, a fact I attribute to the light humor the author has infused into every chapter of the book. My favorite part of the book was learning about how our personalities factor into our career paths. It was intriguing to learn how psychology plays an integral role in our career plans and growth. I also enjoyed reading the chapter on investing as I learned a lot about the different types of investments someone can venture into.

E. Alan Fleischauer wrote the book mainly for individuals from the United States as most of the information provided within the book is based on American statistics and way of living. Despite this fact, I believe that the information is also applicable to other geographical areas around the world. I would recommend this book to people who are fifty years and above as well as anyone interested in books on retirement.

In all accounts, I did not find any negative aspects in this book as I enjoyed reading every single page of the book. Given the above information and the fact that the book shares a unique perspective on retirement planning, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I believe the book was professionally edited as I found no errors in the book.
