Review of Reconfigurement
Is there an easy way to navigate through your career, finances, and retirement? What do you require for you to live a satisfying life both in your current career? How do you know if the career you are taking is good for you and whether you should consider a shift? Are there career assessments you can take to help with that? Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer is a self-help book that talks about a variety of topics like investment, career assessment, insurance, and retirement. It guides on how best to make life easier by simply "reconfiguring" your life, just as the title hints.
The book is a collection of financial information that I found amazing. Even though a considerable number was built around the US, it was still worthwhile when looked at from a general perspective. For example, I had no idea how to use the career assessment tools that have incorporated with American aspects like 401k, but I got the overall idea that it would be rewarding to take a career assessment at least once. The advice on taking insurance, investing, cutting bills, and planning for retirement was also useful. I bet I'll start implementing some things I learned from the book straight away.
Another thing that I loved about the book was that it was realistic and straightforward. Reading the description, I thought this was like the other books that promise "secret ingredients to some of snake oil" kind of information, but the author kept everything simple. The explanations were realistic, especially about preparing for emergencies.
Still in the previous idea, emergencies may strike at any time, and without a proper plan, you may end up in big trouble. The book explains that one of the ways to cushion against such occurrences is taking an insurance cover. However, some insurance policies are only after your premiums and cover far much less than what you even pay for. This book advices on how to choose the right plan depending on your preference without breaking the bank.
I don't have any negative things to say about the book. I wish it was written in a more universal way without focusing so much on America, but the information presented cuts across a diverse scope. The book was also written well, and the style of presentation was wonderful. I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars, and I don't think there's a valid reason to deduct any stars. I recommend this book to those interested in topics like career evaluation, insurance policies, and retirement.
