Review of Snatched Up to Heaven!
Snatched up to Heaven by Jemima Paul and Arvind Paul is a novel where a mother and father describe and share with the world, their daughters’ experiences of being taken to heaven by angels. Priyanka and Deepika, were four and two, respectively, when the experiences of being taken to heaven first started. The girls describe, in much detail, what transpired from the time the angels took them from their rooms to being brought to heaven. They talk about their experiences with angels, Jesus, God and other people in heaven. The girls also relate to their parents the experience of visiting hell and the torment and chaos they witnessed.
Paul and Paul use the Bible to support interpretations of the girls’ dreams and visions in instances where the girls were not able to provide a full story or clear enough details.
The positive aspect of this book is that the authors used Bible quotes and occurrences to support delivery of their story. The girls’ recounts, testimonies and experiences could all be backed by the Bible and its teachings. The authors and their family are Christians, therefore, we can appreciate the connections made to Biblical teachings.
One negative aspect which dawned on me has more to do with my thoughts as a reader, than the intention of the book or the authors. I am not in a position to directly contradict or support the conversations or relaying of visions that took place between the girls and their parents, however, it left some doubt in my mind as I found the story too perfect. How were two little girls able to have visions which meshed exactly with what the Bible denotes with no form of variation? The heaven in their visions was exactly as described in the Bible, their description of Jesus was exactly as the image which has been ingrained into us. Even the food served was an Indian dish which the girls loved. Such perfection created doubt in my mind. Added to this, it triggered the question, how were two little girls, ages two and four, a toddler and preschooler, able to provide such vivid descriptions of where they had been and what they had seen?
The aforementioned skepticism stemmed from my thoughts as a reader and was not a flaw of the book itself, therefore, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It was very professionally edited, with one minor error being spotted. I would recommend this book to young Christian readers including Christian children or any reader with a curiosity of heaven and Biblical teachings.
