Review of The Dream Primer
I enjoyed reading The Dream Primer: Turn Your Low-Def Ideas Into A Stunning Hi-Res Future You Must Pursue by Jeff Meyer. It was a quick, easy, and entertaining book that had an impact on my life and actions. In the book, Mr. Meyer identifies the common barriers that prevent individuals from achieving the things that they know are important deep in their hearts. But then, he breaks down those barriers and provides actionable solutions to make forward progress.
I appreciated the no-fluff approach taken in this book. The author provides just enough information, case studies, and examples to make the point clear, but never belabors a point. My first read-through took only a day. Then, I went back through each of the exercises and took the time to apply the concepts. A specific dream of mine was triggered when I chose this book, and by working through each exercise I was able to put together a plan to accomplish it, and even completed an initial step. I also appreciated that the author suggested solutions and actions for common challenges. The author provided models for thinking through challenges that, while not novel, are effective. For each of these, he included examples of their application to help readers less familiar with the strategy.
The Dream Primer was written by a pastor and had a lot of God-focused references. Being agnostic, I didn’t find value in those references, but I also did not feel it took away from the content. The book never felt preachy or proselytizing. It read to me as if he were simply trying to help readers who were religious make the relevant connections. That is the only thing in this book that, for me, wasn’t on point.
I enjoyed reading this book and completing each of the exercises. I found personal value in it. In addition, it is such a quick and easy read, and so logically organized, that I will likely refer to it whenever I find myself stuck on the path to my dream. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.
I recommend this book to anyone who has a dream. Whether or not you are currently facing challenges in achieving your dream, I believe you will find some nuggets of inspiration or guidance that will provide value. If you believe in God, and especially if you are Christian, you are likely to find additional value.
This book was well-written overall, but I did find errors in the numbering of the exercises. Habit one contained numbered exercises that were in order starting with 1.1. Habit two started with exercise 2.1, and was followed by exercises 1.3 and 1.4.
