Review of Reconfigurement
Reconfigurement is a resource created by E. Alan Fleischauer designed to teach us how to plan for the future. It provides information on subjects we should consider when we retire. In this way, over the course of 13 chapters, we will cover topics such as our plans for the future to more specific aspects, including investments and the choice of health insurance, and even discuss the planning of a will. And while it may seem rushed to learn about these matters if we are still a long way from retirement age, the author convinces us to give his book a chance from the very first pages. He achieves that by giving us a glimpse of reality about our future. And that is, many of us will not have retirement plans by then, or even if we do have one, it will only work if we learn to invest in it effectively.
Yet, this scenario is far from hopeless, as the author has an extensive experience in the financial sector to help us. In this way, he will advise us throughout the book to prevent that future from becoming our reality.
My favorite part of the book is undoubtedly its tone. Despite addressing economic topics, the author always conveys the book's content as if it were a conversation, which he tries to simplify as much as possible. Besides, thanks to the numerous jokes and anecdotes that we can find, added to its concise and digestible content, we will find ourselves in front of a light reading that can serve us as a reference for the future.
One aspect that I would like to highlight to confirm the latter is that the book includes a section on careers and jobs. This passage motivates us to evaluate ourselves and provides us with the tools to find the position of our dreams if we wish to do so. Because an essential point that the author emphasizes is that retirement has to fit us and should be enjoyed, so aspects such as our future work and considering future hobbies are not an issue that is left out of this reading either, something that I found unique and refreshing.
My final rating for this book is 4 out of 4 stars for all of the above. And although the recommended reading age is between 40-50 years old, even 20-year-olds could benefit from this information, as would anyone who wants to change the direction of their life. Because the planning provided here is a valuable resource for everyone.
