Have you ever craved to know about the Navy? Or what does life at sea look like? This book, When Life Doesn't Turn Out The Way We Hoped It Would? Volume 2 by Tom Wick is a nonfiction book that will take you around Tom's life working under the navy as a hull maintenance technician fireman and facing hardships arising from past mishaps.

This book started with the description of the ship, USS Gridley, which was named after Lieutenant Commander Charles Vernon Steve Gridley, now a commander by promotion. Tom worked as a hull technician on the ship and was carried along by the navy for missions. He explored lots of locations, especially during his free time. He described in detail the features of the places he visited. Due to the assault he received in volume 1 of this book, Tom decided to set boundaries on his relationships with people, as trust was now just a notion to him. How do you think Tom got out of this trauma? Read this book to learn more.

This book was indeed a great read for me. The author used a lot of facets to increase my love and enthusiasm for this book. The pictures in this book were not only attractive but also educational and colorful, and they helped me get a real picture of what was being talked about in this book. The author was very detailed in his writing. As I read this book, there was this feeling I had. The author's writing style was very friendly. He knew what was wrong and bad, and even though he knew he could not live a 100 percent good life, he still acknowledged it for what it is. I must say the author of this book is not just an author based on occupation. I think he has a passion for writing, and anyone could tell from the author's style of writing.

There was nothing I disliked about this book except that the beginning was a bit complex. I enjoyed reading about winemaking. I loved Tom's talent in that field, and I was also happy when he started talking about winemaking. It gave me a break from the book's main storyline. I found a few errors in this book, which shows that it was professionally edited by the author. I also found some words that were used on different occasions in this book but with different names. Like on page five, the author was talking about the Battle of Mobile Bay, and on that same page, he referred to the Battle of Manila Bay. I don’t know which one to take. I hope the author takes note of this.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I did not see any reason to deduct any stars from this book. I recommend this book to adults who love books about the Navy and also to lovers of biographies.

Everyone has their story. Some stories are rosy. Some are really sad. I guess that's the situation of the main character in this book. It's quite smart he had to write it down for readers to learn from.

Life hardly ever turns out the way that we hope it will. But if you step back and look at it objectively, it’s almost always better than anything we could have planned.
