Review of Seeking... Finding... Healing...
Life is seen from different perspectives by different individuals. While this may be true, one consensus is that life is filled with difficult situations that could lead to one giving up. Seeking... Finding... Healing... by Becky Lu Jackson is a book that soothes or, rather, provides a way to navigate through the difficulties of life. It helps one view life with a different mindset and talks about the steps one needs to follow to value the healing tools of inner family work. It also talks about the spiritual aspect of life and the need for spiritual guidance in life. The writer states that for one to be able to gain more, one needs to have an open mind and a willing mind.
We cannot change the past, but we can control the future. This is one good thing this book presents. It helps one go back in time to the younger self of the individual. On the part of past life regrets, our younger self has always been the person or version of ourselves who does some wrongs or makes some mistakes that could affect us in the future. Using the tool of meditation, the author helps the reader look into the mirror and see themselves making such mistakes. The best way to describe this is to call it the act of communicating with your younger self. This means we get information from our past and make good use of it for the betterment of our future.
Becky, a character from a movie called Sybil, has been used as a mirror to help point us in the right direction. The writer uses the character to let us know that no one is above making mistakes and that everyone is and can never be the same. The writer points out that there is always room for positive change, no matter how bad life makes you feel.
As we all know, individuals are of different characters, and this tends to affect our ways of thinking, either positively or negatively. The writer makes it clear that if we are to pick our team, it should be on all levels of positive impact with zero tolerance for bad preaching, speeches, or an atmosphere of low self-esteem. The writer instructs us to create a team that must always, at all points, have a positive impact on our goals. It should be noted that the team we pick affects our approach towards achieving our goals, so why surround yourself with individuals who think differently from you or think nothing good can ever get to you? A major condition for having inner healing is coming into harmony with self-care. Self-care may seem small or minute, but it plays a huge role when you look at the bigger picture. Self-care can also be said to mean self-love. People tend to dislike or hate themselves for acting differently or not in unison with their counterparts. This single act is a negative act that goes a long way toward diminishing the self-esteem of an individual. Always learn to love yourself more, believe in yourself, and never stop growing.
One thing I did not enjoy about this book is the writer's religious inclination. It is filled up with many nuggets on Christianity, and I feel this may lead Muslims or an advocate of religion to view this book as being one-sided. Someone who isn't a Christian may not understand the point the writer is trying to make. The writer should not have limited this book to one religion; at the very least, there should not be any religious matters raised, and the writer should have either stayed in the middle or touched on all other religions. While this did not interfere with my enjoyment of this book, I feel it may not sit right with some people.
I will rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I rated it so highly because it is a well-edited book with corresponding chapters that are linked. This book has an interesting plot with an easy-going sequence mixed with words that make understanding relatively easy. I will recommend this book to all individuals who have lost hope in life and also to all young people who are trying to navigate life.
