This is a letter written by a grandfather to his granddaughter, Abigail, to tell her about her mother and what a wonderful person she was. Having lost both his wife (Rachel) and daughter (Carys) to ovarian cancer, it will be sufficient to say that he has experienced the pain of losing loved ones. As his granddaughter and son-in-law moved away, he deemed it fitting to write this story to Abigail. He knows that she will have a lot of questions about who her mother is, and his aim is to get those answers ready in this letter for when she is old enough to inquire. If you want to know more about this letter, you should read Dear Abigail by Richard Rees.

There are some positive aspects of the book that I took note of that made me love it. First, the author's writing style was beautiful. I know that this book is an outpouring of the heart, but the details provided, with flashbacks, show the author's experience in writing. Second, this book starts on a note of grief. I was calm, reading, expecting, and praying for it not to be worse. Even as Mr. Rees was always digressing, the book was still full of suspense. I got to the point where he recalled Abigail asking why he lived alone, and I was alarmed. What happened to Meryn?

As I read on, I grew to care for each person in this story. Richard Rees is such a strong man and has so much love and care to give. Richard was unquestionably the best father, husband, and grandparent to Carys, Ewen, Rachel, and Abigail. He was also incredibly tranquil, and his memories of his loved ones were really genuine. The excellent memories in this book made it simple to distinguish between joyful and sad memories. The author crafted this letter so that people may relate to his feelings and the agony he experienced during those trying days.

There was nothing I disliked about Dear Abigail by Richard Rees. It was an emotional rollercoaster for me, and at one point, I wished I could stop some things from happening. Since I did not dislike anything about this book, I will gladly rate it 5 out of 5 stars.

I can say that this book was professionally edited because I noticed only one error in it. I would recommend this book to those who love to read family-themed stories. I would also recommend it to readers who have lost a loved one because they will connect well with the book.

I don’t know much about this type of loss (especially a double loss), but it’s got to be devastating for all involved. Mr. Rees is right. She will eventually want answers to her questions.

I wish every grandparentent could do this for their grandchildren, it'll gonna long way. If there are diseases in the bloodline, it'll help if there know about it so they can avoid things that set off those diseases.
