Review of Snatched Up to Heaven!
Snatched Up To Heaven by Jemima Paul and Arvind Paul was my first introduction to contemporary religious text, and I was pleasantly surprised by how the non-fiction book was raw, candid, and novel in its approach.
The authors’ daughters had quite a life-changing experience in 2011. One night, Deepika, the younger daughter who was two years old at the time, and Priyanka, the older daughter who was four years old at the time, claimed that they were taken to heaven by angels. They had the exact same experiences in both their dreams. Upon waking up, they described their vivid dreams to their parents, who listened to them with all their attention. The girls yearned to go back. To do so, they prayed with all their heart and might, and their prayers were soon answered. Over the course of the next few nights, they were allowed to visit heaven again as guests of God and learn all about it. Their experiences are the core of the book.
I really enjoyed how accessible this book was to read. The experiences described were unedited, so they felt quite authentic. The writing was simple and easy to follow. The way that the two little girls described heaven in all its glory was heartwarming. Their faith and upbringing were inspiring. It was also fascinating to see how the parents, the authors themselves, did not disregard the experiences of their daughters as childish babbling. They were supportive right from the beginning and encouraged them to continue sharing their experiences with them.
As someone who had little to no prior knowledge about Christianity, I went into this book blind, ready for a new kind of insightful experience. The authors definitely facilitated me on this journey as they would often compare and align Deepika and Priyanka’s experiences with verses in the Bible. The verses themselves were enlightening and well explained in the context of the dreams in question. The pictures and videos attached at the end of the book enhanced the conveyance of their daughters’ experiences. By the end of the book, it felt like I knew their experiences and had heard them myself intimately.
This personal connection definitely enhanced the reading experience. I also found nothing I disliked about this book, it was a wonderful and well-edited read, which is why I give it 4 out of 4 stars. I found no typos, or sexual, or offensive content in this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who is heavily interested in Christianity and would like to learn about someone else’s vision of heaven.
