Review of The First Time Father
The First Time Father is a self-help book written by Thomas Alfie. The author’s wife became pregnant, and that is where everything started. He wanted to know everything about bringing up a baby from its first. He searched many books and couldn’t find the necessary content. Hence, this book was born. Thomas has explained everything in a simple way that even a 15-year-old can understand.
From the time of Anna’s (Thomas’ wife) water-breaking incident till baby proofing the room, he covered it all. This book is filled with many hidden truths that young couples usually wing off. Thomas has explained dad guilt, authoritarian parent, different attachment styles, keeping relationships healthy, performing work-life balance and more.
Thomas took paternity leave to be with Ella during her first days. It was a whole new world for him. The sleeping and crying were endless, and he was at his wit’s end. His perfect attendance in parenting sessions and father sessions were the ones that helped him overcome. Ella needed constant guidance. How did Thomas and Anna pull this off? Who changed Ella’s diapers? How did they maintain a work-life balance? When was the last time they slept? What is in this book for me? Find all your answers in The First Time Father by Thomas Alfie.
I loved the fact that the author used the word “please” before beginning a statement or a sentence in many places. I could feel the author’s heart when he humbled himself all along. Child-rearing is no joke. Every day is a challenge. Nights of sleep are discontinued. Responsibilities double. Mood swings triple. The author laid out each problem and gave witty solutions through simple bulletins and short paragraphs.
There was no profanity in this book. I cannot think of anything if I have to mention a negative feature of this book. It is resourceful, handy, valuable and useful. There were a few errors that I came across while reading, but that didn’t hinder me from enjoying the book’s content.
The coloured pictures gave a nice feel to the reader. I will rate The First time Father 5 out of 5 stars. The reason is for the author’s simple language and boldly showing the world the crucial duties of a father in child-rearing. The father has an equal share in bringing up the child.
If you are pledged to be married, engaged, about to become a dad or to think of starting a family, The First Time Father is an inexpensive purchase with lots of practical insights. Even young adults can read this and gain practical knowledge. Wives, girlfriends, sisters, and mothers can even gift this book to their closest males. It is well worth it. Is a father supposed to change diapers? Read this book and find the answer.
