If you have ever wanted to live a more adventurous life but needed the motivation to get off of your couch, then you will want to pick up a copy of Free and Fearless by Phil Moser. Free and Fearless is the true story of a young woman named Brittany Moser whose life was cut short by Addison’s disease. Brittany’s father, Phil, lovingly wrote the book in honor of her memory and in celebration of her life. Brittany lived a life full of adventure that was, in her own words, “free and fearless” (page 104).

In the book, Brittany’s father documents her life from childhood to womanhood. He describes Brittany as being driven in her pursuit of an extraordinary life, whether that meant leading her softball team to a championship win or moving to Colorado to find better job opportunities. Brittany found satisfaction in varying careers that enabled her independence and also found a love for the outdoors and yoga.

Throughout the book, Phil talks about the close relationship that he and Brittany had. They both cherished their time together, and Phil flew to Colorado regularly to spend time with his daughter. Brittany asked her dad to tackle a list she found on Buzzfeed: “20 places in Colorado that will literally take your breath away” (page 62). They agreed to see all 20 locations and spent meaningful time together trying to achieve their goal. Brittany died before they could see all 20 spots, and Phil made it his mission to complete the list after she died.

I enjoyed reading this heartwarming book about Brittany Moser and learning more about Addison’s, a disease that ultimately (and unexpectedly) took her life. Phil’s love for his daughter poured out of every page in a way that showed his admiration for her. Brittany’s fierce determination to live a happy life guided her days and inspired her father and others to do the same.

There was nothing I didn’t like about this book. It was exceptionally edited and includes several pictures of Brittany, Phil, and their adventures. Reading this on a Kindle e-reader was most likely the less optimal way to enjoy the book. The pictures are smaller and fuzzier than they would be in a paper copy of the book, and they are in black and white. One tip for anyone who reads this book digitally is to click out of the “rate and review” page that pops up at the end of the book. The acknowledgments at the end of the book include articles written about the author and information on the National Adrenal Diseases Foundation and Addison’s disease.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. The writing was heartfelt and inspiring. The exceptional editing carefully curated each chapter to highlight Brittany’s life. I recommend the book to anyone who has lost someone special to them and is looking for meaning in that loss and a path forward.

I have also noticed this premature rating page while reading books on Kindle. I hope they fix this "feature."
Thank you for your engaging review of this touching book.
