Review of Stress Test: How Donald Trump Threatens American Democracy
Stress Test is a book written by William Cooper on how Donald Trump threatens American Democracy. Being an Attorney and columnist, his writings have appeared in over a hundred publications globally, receiving tributes. For example, Lindsey Chastern, Editor-in-Chief of Skiatook journal, says that "William Cooper's editorials are always thought-provoking and spark much-needed political discussion."He combines his knowledge of law and politics to understand world affairs clearly.
In every chapter, he starts with a quote that motivates the readers to dig deeper into the story. The author tells us how the democracy of America was tested under Trump's lies. Trump is an example of many leaders in the world who takes advantage of citizen ignorance in participating in political affairs, hence influencing them to embrace false narrative. As Pluto put it, "one of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors. Indeed Trump was a test of the democracy of the American people.
I love the book because despite the threats and pressure Trump enforced on the government bodies, they still ruled against him. for example, his attorney refused to endorse Muslim Ban. Secondly, Supreme Court rejected to reverse DACA and Unti-LGBT Civil Act argument. Thirdly the electorate refused his quest to overturn the 2020 election in his favor against Biden, who won fairly. I also love how government bodies in America exercise their independence and transparency in their rulings, irrespective of personal position. It is an excellent example to other countries' government bodies that are not independent. I also love the respect Trump had for the judicial branch; despite being investigated, he never violated a single court decision or questioned its legitimacy. Not every star you love makes a good leader; we should choose a person with a great vision for the country.
I have no reason to hate this book. Still, my criticism is of his friends, who knew he was committing treason but continued to support him blindly. Secondly, the idea of Trump burning Muslims from entering the United States and building a wall on the southern border with Mexico and having Mexican pay for it heavely was a dangerous move. Thirdly the discrimination of intergender and racism in his country. I could imagine working in a place where your rights are violated. Imagine the pressure; the trauma you go through will lower your performance and confidence, and no one will even want to hire you. Being a president, you are a symbol of national unity as well as stability, but Trump was the opposite of this. Covid-19 showed as that human life has equal value irrespective of where you are born or how you look like.
I rate the book 4 out of 4 or 5 out of 5 stars because of its creativity and uniqueness in capturing the reader's attention.
I would recommend these book to people who like reading about history and any other person who want to unravel a political dilemma
