Review of Don't Mind Me, I'm Just Having a Bad Life
Don’t Mind Me, I’m Just Having a Bad Life: A Memoir, by Lewis Kempfer As he narrates his life from a young age, the author illustrates his early memories of his abusive biological father, who helped lay the groundwork for the self-hatred that would later characterize his life. After then, readers learn of young Lewis' first sexual encounters, his cruel stepfather, and his mother's unwavering devotion to her new man. From an early age, the author experiences devastating self-loathing that sets the stage for his life, relationships, and work. As a result, he finds himself in a never-ending cycle of controlling and violent relationships, while also emulating his mother's desperation to win over every partner out of dread of being left alone. Kempfer, though, can now plainly recall times when God was attempting to catch his attention amid all this turbulence. Before he finally finds acceptance from God and allows Him to transform his entire life, he draws attention to these as fleeting instances where he does not quite learn his lesson.
I admired how the author was blatantly real, genuine, and raw. He was completely transparent with us, sharing both his highs and lows. Few people would be willing to share their darkest moments with others; therefore, I commend the author for having the courage to do so and for allowing his life to serve as a great lesson for many. I also liked the author's use of humor, even when it was gloomy or self-deprecating at times, since it lightened up some of the more upsetting and challenging subjects. The timing and orderliness of the occurrences kept my attention focused.
There was nothing that I disliked about the book; it was well-written and intriguing to read. I'm pleased I didn't pass this book by. It serves as a great reminder that despite being merely human, everyone is capable of overcoming even the most difficult circumstances. Even when discussing the most difficult times in his life, the author never resorted to lying. He sincerely acknowledges his flaws in his failed relationships and expresses regret for them.
I appreciated that the author gave his message in a clearer manner. I genuinely enjoyed all aspects of this book. There were no grammatical errors or mistakes in it; therefore, it was exceptionally well edited. As a result, I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars.
I will recommend this book to everyone who feels, or has ever felt, rejected by friends, society, a lover, family, or who feels suicidal and unworthy of living.
