It is not easy for someone to bring about change in a society over the years. I have come across historical accounts of great men who all tried, in their respective ways, to bring change to their society or their nation as a whole. I just met this exceptional, inspiring memoir. A Dream for Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah This book will amaze your mind for sure. This book gives us details about the author's journey of bringing change not only to his country but far beyond. This story is filled with a lot of lessons and inspirations that one can learn from.

Dr Ghoulem Berrah, who happens to be the author, was born in a small city in Algeria and was from a polygamous home. His birth town faced a lot of security challenges. His mother was a strict woman, a strong authoritarian whose interests were in her child’s quality education. The author’s country at that time was a French colony, and this made the French language a compulsory language in their educational curriculum. One can only imagine the pain of studying a foreign culture in your own country. As a result of what happened at the graduation ceremony, there was an anti-colonial protest. The excellent student award given was unfair, so this agitated the protest. Although the author was awarded a scholarship to study at any university of his choice, this wasn’t the end of the fight. Dr. Ghoulem will be arrested later on. If you want to know what happened after that, I urge you to get your own copy now.

I love this book. I must say that the author’s courage amazed me. It made me eager to read about him going through a lot just for the sake of peace. His story and the role he played in the decolonization were very fascinating to me. He became very successful, to the extent that his mandate gave him privileges to meet different notable world leaders. He became a scientist, and not just a scientist; he became the first to discover a hypothesis, though it was later identified by reverse transcriptase enzymes. This book is a hope-restorer for many African countries. Every reader has to emulate this man because he was not only a freedom fighter but also a good son, father, friend, and, above all, a good role model.

Throughout the book, I didn’t like the abbreviations. The abbreviations were compounded, and this can slow down the pace of one’s reading. Apart from this little issue, I enjoyed the book.

I would like to give A Dream for Peace 5 out of 5 stars. The minor issues with the abbreviations didn’t deduct a star, as I didn’t see any errors and the writing was perfect.

Lastly, I would recommend this book to all freedom fighters. If you really have dreams of restoring peace to your society or nation, I urge you to get a copy of this book.
