Nobody can ever say that Poppy Mortimer is not a trier. Spanning twenty years, she has gone on multiple dates that would have most people swearing off the opposite sex forever. However, that never stopped her from giving the act of dating another chance and another one, and another one. Filled with uncomfortable encounters and many innuendos, 28 Disastrous Dates: A (Mostly True) Humerous Memoir is an incredibly entertaining and eye-opening book about the world of dating.

I loved this book! Poppy’s clever wit and whimsical humor undoubtedly shined through in her writing. The book was funny, a little bit sad, and definitely entertaining. While I do feel sorry for her for having to endure these torturous dates – dates 3 and 6 especially – I’m glad she shared her story with her readers. This book serves as a cautionary tale to other women to let them know they should be a bit pickier when choosing potential suitors.

This book was so well-written and enjoyable. The author very obviously possesses a great talent for writing, and I would very much like to read whatever else she comes out with. The writing was descriptive and felt so personal that I felt as though I was there, witnessing every date. If I were her, I don’t know if I would keep getting back on the horse after all of those less-than-desirable experiences. The word “disastrous” in the title of the book makes a lot of sense after reading it.

I think it is quite obvious just how much I enjoyed this book. Poppy’s writing was extremely entertaining and very much hilarious. While reading, it was effortless to see her humor and personality imprinted on the book's pages. I genuinely appreciated the fact that she made it a point that you can still be happy and fulfilled even if you are single. I honestly have nothing negative to mention about it. Another detail that added very much to my enjoyment was the fact that it was exceptionally well-edited, as I discovered no errors whatsoever. As a result of the numerous reasons mentioned above, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

I would enthusiastically recommend this book to readers who are seeking a friend to commiserate about their dating life with, as this book feels like hearing an old friend’s “war” stories. It would be better suited to more mature readers as there are a few instances of minor profanity and sexual themes throughout.
