Review of 28 Disastrous Dates: A (Mostly True) Humourous Memoir
If you have ever survived a horrible date and wondered what went wrong, you should read 28 Disastrous Dates: A (Mostly True) Humourous Memoir by Poppy Mortimer. This book may not give you insight into what went wrong, but it will make you feel better about your experience. The author shares her experiences navigating the dating scene. The dates will not only leave readers in stitches, but they will have you contemplating a few things about dating in general.
I must commend Poppy Mortimer for writing this gem of a book. 28 Disastrous Dates: A (Mostly True) Humourous Memoir is one of the best and most memorable books I have read this year. I enjoyed reviewing this book so much that I finished it in a day. The book is only 264 pages long and contains 28 main chapters. Each chapter highlights each of the dates.
I like that the chapters start with background information on Poppy's age at the time, the location of the date, where they met, and how they asked her out. It allowed me to get a better understanding of what would happen next. I also like that the author shares the lesson she learned from the date at the end of each chapter. Plus, 28 Disastrous Dates: A (Mostly True) Humourous Memoir also contains a final list of the summary of the lessons towards the end of the book. The list has amusing but helpful information for readers in the long run.
I love how relatable 28 Disastrous Dates: A (Mostly True) Humourous Memoir is. I doubt that most of us have gone through the exact things Poppy did, but most readers can relate to being on bad dates. I like that the author expresses the importance of finding personal happiness and fulfillment. I think these things are beneficial regardless of whether you are in a relationship or single. The book also reminds people to learn from bad experiences and be willing to put themselves out there. This book also reminded me of the importance of seeing the silver lining in situations and having fun. I like that Poppy was able to have fun and see the humor in some of the bad dates she went on.
28 Disastrous Dates: A (Mostly True) Humourous Memoir is one of those books that never get old. I will be getting myself a hard copy of this book because I can foresee myself rereading it numerous times.
In conclusion, I will be giving 28 Disastrous Dates: A (Mostly True) Humourous Memoir an overall rating of 5 out of 5 stars. In all honesty, giving this book a lower rating would be a crime. I settled on this rating because I enjoyed the writing and reading about the author’s dating experiences. I also did not find anything that would warrant a negative critique. I have to commend the editing. I did not come across any errors whatsoever while reading.
I recommend 28 Disastrous Dates: A (Mostly True) Humourous Memoir to readers who enjoy memoirs. This book is also perfect for people who like books about dating and enjoy humor. I would not recommend 28 Disastrous Dates: A (Mostly True) Humourous Memoir to younger readers. It contains mature content that is more suitable for older readers.
