Review of Reconfigurement
Reconfigurement is a non-fiction book about planning for retirement. The book contains thirteen chapters and is less than two hundred pages long. The author, E. Alan Fleischauer, is a certified financial planner, chartered financial consultant, retirement income professional, estate planner, and a master's degree holder in financial planning from the American College of Financial Services. So, in conclusion, you'll be receiving professional advice if you're looking to plan financially for the future.
The first chapters talk more about the importance of planning for retirement and how most people fail to do this and are faced with the reality only when it hits them in their golden years. The author also included chapters to define the concept of reconfigurement, personality assessment tests you can take to find a suitable job, and the available web tools that can be useful. He then starts to describe several facets of the reconfigurement framework that he developed to help people with creating suitable retirement plans for themselves.
I liked the way the author broke down such a complex and technical topic into simpler bits that the reader can digest more easily. Most people find retirement planning a boring topic and aren't familiar with financial terms. Also, retirement is always a heavy and sensitive topic to discuss, especially with older people. However, the author managed to sidestep all those problems and deliver a seamless, light-on-the-heart, and clear account of the topic at hand. I also liked the block statements that appeared now and then between the text to provide refreshing breaks.
There's nothing that I particularly didn't like about this book. There is only the matter that the book is more suitable for residents of the USA. I understand that the legal details cannot encompass all countries, but in some parts, even the general ones, it felt like the author was only addressing American citizens. Also, in the chapter about personality assessment tests, the author criticized one of them negatively based solely on his personal result when he did the test. I think we shouldn't base a criticism, especially if it's negative, on a single case.
I recommend this book to people who are retired, are about to retire, or want to secure their lives ahead from now. Reconfigurement is an adequate account of everything related to retirement planning delivered clearly and simply. If you are from the USA, this book should be perfect for you.
I give Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer 5 out of 5 stars. The book's editing is professional, and I didn't find any mistakes or errors. The content structure is easy to follow and makes you understand things better. With everything aside, retirement is a heavy and important matter, but the author's presentation of the topic showed that all of us, young or old, married or widowed, men or women, are the same and we can plan this thing ahead and work it out.
