In this second edition of his #1 best-selling book, In It Together: The Beautiful Struggle Uniting Us All, author Eckhart Aurelius Hughes tackles the hard questions of existence while refining his fascinating look into the human condition. From the opening quote by Ram Dass to the closing thanks to the reader, you can hear the heartfelt genuineness of Hughes. In the chapters between, the desire to help us understand the beautiful struggles that unite us and thereby, in some way, perhaps also help us find peace, is an absolute and obvious priority for the author. He encourages us to stop fighting as a way to find inner peace.

The overall theme of this book is love and how to give and receive it. True conscious love for ourselves and empathetic love for others. "Live by the golden rule," "find inner peace," "have self-discipline," and "love yourself" are terms that are bandied about without much thought. They all sound familiar and may seem obvious, but in this book they are described in much greater detail than is usual. After reading through the book a second time, I noticed how deeply Hughes delves into their meanings and gives everyday examples of how we can apply them to our own lives.

I liked that in this new edition of In It Together, the opening question was changed slightly to make it easier for the average reader to understand and contemplate without changing the essence of the question. Also, I like that the eleven suggestions on how to free your spirit and manifest your love are numbered, making them convenient to reference. I enjoyed the uplifting tone of this book, interspersed with snippets of humor. It is informative without being preachy, which makes it easy to read and understand.

There is utterly nothing I dislike about this book. As a matter of fact, I would be hard-pressed to find anything that was bothersome or displeasing in any way. It's unusual for me to never dislike some part of a book while reading it, but I can honestly say that this is that rare exception.

This book is distinctly well-thought-out, and Hughes has clearly done extensive research for his book. I give it a 5 out of 5 stars rating for this and the reasons stated above. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in finding that calming, contented feeling that comes from inner peace. Those with a penchant for philosophical discourse will find this to be an interesting read.
