Dr. Frank L. Douglas, having been born into a poor family, was lucky to get a scholarship. He moves from his poor British home to study at Lehigh University and, later, Cornell University Medical School. Like any other international student, he experiences culture shock, which almost pushes him off his tracks. Some other things that come as a shock to him are racial discrimination and discrimination based on ethnicity. Dr. Frank later joins the Johns Hopkins Hospital as a resident doctor. He also receives an award during his residency. Dr. Frank has to deal with matters such as politics, finding his identity, and overcoming obstacles while pursuing his career. Being an African American in a country filled with racial discrimination doesn't deter him from accomplishing his goals. He becomes a renowned scientist thanks to his honesty and determination. Reading Defining Moments of a Free Man from a Black Stream by Dr. Frank L. Douglas tells this amazing story.

Growing up in poverty is usually a major setback when trying to accomplish one's goals. Dr. Frank's resilience and determination make him one of the most successful people. Writing this memoir is one of the things he has largely accomplished. Thanks to this book, many people are aware of what happens in the world. It is also one of the effective ways to eradicate vile aspects like racial discrimination. I love the fact that this book is relatable to many people, especially those who have studied abroad, the poor, and those who've been racially discriminated against.

I loved every aspect of this book. I, however, disliked one aspect of this book. The author, being a scientist, has filled the book with scientific jargon. This poses a challenge to me as I have to confirm the meaning of these terms before continuing my reading. This is a minor error that cannot compare to the greatness of the book's content. I did not notice any other negative aspect apart from this.

I rate Defining Moments of a Free Man from a Black Stream by Dr. Frank L. Douglas 5 out of 5 stars. This book is educational and interesting and I believe it deserves a perfect rating. The negative aspect stated above doesn't reduce the book's perfect rating. I did not encounter any grammatical errors or typos while reading this book. I, therefore, conclude that the book was exceptionally well edited.

I recommend this book to readers who are against racial discrimination. Lovers of politics and memoirs will also appreciate Dr. Frank's work. There is no age restriction to this book. I enjoyed every theme in this book. I especially liked Dr. Frank's residency program. It is indeed true that it's never too late to discover a good book.

I enjoyed this summary of this review, and it inspires me to see authors disregard racial inequality. Reading this novel would expand my knowledge of Dr. Frank's experience at Lehigh University. I would love to grab a copy of this novel. Nice review.

Thank you for the comment. Racial discrimination is still being addressed today and stories like Frank's help us see the world in a different light.

This sounds like an interesting autobiography! I’m sure there was quite a culture shock for Dr. Frank. It’s too bad about the scientific jargon; that type of thing can be really distracting. Thanks for the review!
