In It Together by Eckhart Aurelius Hughes details humanity's struggles while explaining why humanity struggles. Even in the very beginning, the author's intentions are to unite every reader (and the potential reader) and make all feel welcome. Throughout the book, we get to delve into the meaning of true consciousness, love, freedom, and empathy.

Throughout the entire novel, many many literary devices are used (a rare find in today's writings). References to modern pop culture and ancient philosophical writings are sprinkled throughout the teachings; uniting scholars and common people alike. The format of the writing and the call to everyone is extremely pleasing to the eye and mind, it did not take much effort to maintain my captivation.

There really were very few negatives I could spot despite taking my time while reading. There was only one very mild mistake and I am confident in saying this novel was professionally edited. My only chief complaint is regarding the size and spacing of chapters/sections. Some were incredibly short (no more than a few pages) and others seemed to drag on forever. I feel as though the longer ones could’ve been broken up into smaller bite-sized chunks and the minuscule ones could’ve been padded better.

Ultimately I give In It Together a well-earned 5 out of 5. The author is able to address some difficult subjects in a precise and non-accusatory manner, which was one of my bigger concerns when I first started reading. The footnotes providing more background or supporting info really drove some points home. Last but not least, the referencing of modern pop culture and ancient philosophers creates a common ground for people of all backgrounds. I truly am not one for material outside of my comforting thrillers and fiction, but this is one of the few exceptions. Within the first few pages, I wanted to read more and more. Before I knew it, I was turning the last page to the back cover!

This book was a bit of a difficult read due to the number of new words not commonly known. I do believe anyone could read, understand, and learn from it given a little effort. From the very start, it is made completely clear that people of all types, backgrounds, political beliefs, and medical beliefs are welcomed. The author does seem to have a stance on some things, but it does not interfere with the core message and goal. No one is ostracized, if anything it provides more insight and understanding regarding people with beliefs opposing the reader's own.
