Review of The First Time Father
The First Time Father by Thomas Alfie is a book for all first-time fathers-to-be. It is based on the author's parenting journey. After knowing that his wife is pregnant, the author is set to acquire all the knowledge possible to become a good father. The author addresses the hesitation of men to join birthing classes and how he tackled it. He lists out the things that need to be ready before the day of delivery to avoid a rush. It emphasizes the importance of the father's role in children's life. The book also talks about the changes in a husband-wife relationship after the baby. He explains how learning some things beforehand helped a lot. The book explains the developmental milestones as per the age of the baby. The book also discusses paternity leave, postpartum depression, types of parenting styles, and building a nursery for a baby. It also offers a look into finance management before and after the baby.
It is a quality book that seems perfectly reliable. The language of the book was so easy and comprehensible. I loved the author's dedication to his daughter. He worked hard to manage his work and birthing classes. He took care of his wife and child more than most husbands are known to do. That was an attractive trait of his. I think that should be looked at in a partner by women. I love how the book in detail described the preparation for the baby. For example, making space in all the parts of the home apart from the nursery, coating the electrical cables, keeping shoes outside, etc.
As most of the books are geared toward mothers, this book fulfilled a need for a necessary guiding source for fathers. The steal from the book was the topic of postpartum depression in men. I mean who knows that it even exists? I was impressed by that knowledge. He perfectly covered all the topics that might occur to a new father-to-be. Such as paternity leave and career, work-life balance, sacrifices, who to seek help from, using phones to distract babies, nanny worries, and how to handle it all.
There was absolutely nothing to dislike about the book. I found no spelling mistakes or grammatical errors in the whole book, so this book was exceptionally well-edited. I gladly rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars.
I would recommend this book specifically to all fathers-to-be. This book can also be read by pregnant women. Also, some parts of it that include developmental milestones, what crying can mean, and when to worry and when to not are also useful for women and men who want to be Babysitters.
