Review of The Future of Buildings, Transportation and Power
The Future of Buildings, Transportation and Power is a non-fiction book. It is written by Roger Duncan and Michael E. Webber. The authors put in so much research and analysis to predict technological advancement. This advancement are said to affect major areas like buildings, transportation, and power as they converge, almost as one. The authors talked about powers being drawn from renewable energy, clean energy — considering environmental safety — as the power system advances to smartness and can supply disaster affected areas. From the book, future buildings will be smart, communicating with the occupants and other buildings, while making schedules for their repairs. Transportations were considered to become faster, as electric cars were predicted to become the other of the day.
I had a great time reading this book. To even think that the authors started writing this book 10 years prior to its publishing time, added to my fascination. The authors put in a lot of research into this book, and it doesn't even look far-fetched. Technology is advancing so much, taking major strides, and I know there is more than the mind can imagine. One of the best parts about this book is the authors giving us a glimpse into a world of renewable energies. So it is not only about the advancement in technology, the authors also pitched the possibility of future generations living in safer environs.
There was only one thing that was quite problematic with the book for me, but I think most readers would not mind, is the lack of clear-cut timing to some of this advancement. Although, in our world today, we have begun to see the possibilities of some of the advancement spoken of in this book. Then again, without clear-cut timing, this technological advancement may be considered as fiction or some mere fantasy.
I rate this book a five out of five stars. Because of the hard work that the authors put into this book, I did not give this a lesser star. Their research was deep, and their details thorough. They also used accurate sources for their predictions. Reading the book was very smooth for me as I experienced no grammatical error, so I believe that the book was professionally edited.
I will recommend this book to scientists. The possible advancement in technology stated in this book will give scientists a drive to work harder, for more technology breakthroughs. I also will recommend this book to people of varying ages whose interests are piqued on science, technology, and enjoy to know more about the different new trends in technology, this book will be worth all your time.
