In It Together: The Beautiful Struggle Uniting Us All is a philosophical book that revolves around the concept of how the human mindset could be changed through self-awareness. Eckhart Aurelius Hughes starts the book with a very insightful question that guides us towards his point: namely, that all humans have the same thought patterns, regardless of where they are and what their culture is. The author takes us on a spiritual journey by helping us liberate ourselves from our inner demons and reach inner peace. He carefully constructs his point by explaining the essence of man—the true self. Furthermore, he argues that unity is what we should be searching for. To fully make use of this book, the reader must be willing to open their mind and heal.

What I most enjoyed about this book was its profoundness was directly proportionate to how facile it was to grasp the notions. Philosophy is usually a heavy subject, and one needs a will of iron and extensive background knowledge to assimilate the information. Not the case with this book; the author breaks the concepts into nuggets, making the book accessible to more people. Another positive aspect I noticed was the continuity of the book. Each chapter flows into the next naturally. Furthermore, I admired how the author presented his opinions; reading this book felt like discussing with someone of astounding clarity. My favorite lesson must be Suggestion Two ("Let go of trying. Accept the unchangeable.") This book has truly made me reflect on my life and choices.

In terms of negative aspects, I cannot say I found any other than the fact that some ideas were repeated to the point of redundancy. However, I feel that this is a personal opinion and does not hinder other readers from completing the book. Even though I was a bit confused at times, since I am not the most philosophical person, I feel that this is unavoidable and should not represent a negative aspect.

I found this book inspiring; it made me look inward and come from a place of kindness and love while addressing most of my problems. It has definitely improved the way I look at things. I liked everything about this book, and I could not find any negative aspects that could justify me rating it less than 5 out of 5 stars.

I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to people over 18 years old, not for the nature of the book but because the themes discussed call for a certain amount of life experience and maturity. Keep an open mind, and I am certain this book will help you reach your goals.
