Review of In It Together (2nd Edition Hardcover from B&N)
In It Together is a modern self-help book written by Eckhart Aurelius Hughes. This book aims to articulate some, though not all, self-evident truths and give you practical advice on how to liberate yourself. Right from the start, the book makes strong, passionate, statements about the current state of humanity, which lures you in. Then, Eckhart poses some thought-provoking questions about the readers’ involvement in said state of humanity. The book continues with beautifully crafted words and analogies that carry you through a journey of introspection and self-discovery. Rather than telling you who you are and how you should be, the author is a gentle guide. He peels the layers of many aspects of our lives that we might identify ourselves with and then provides several suggestions and practical methods, echoing the sentiments of letting go and accepting.
In It Together unravels facets of the human condition and the many challenges it engenders under the claim that our inner battles reflect our outer behavior and lives; thus stating that we can look inward to solve what are seemingly outer problems.
This book is full of wonderful aspects. First of all, the title makes sense, as you certainly feel that we, humans, are in it together by the time you are done reading the book, if not earlier. I like how Eckhart speaks of profound topics while maintaining an informal conversational tone, which includes much-appreciated comic relief. The author is also very thorough with definitions and explanations. That is helpful, given that the matters at hand are dichotomous by nature: both simple self-evident truths yet complex and somewhat intangible ideas for our human brains to fully comprehend. The book’s suggestions are great because they provide you with feasible changes you can make in your perspective and behavior after discussing those earlier mentioned truths, which can be possibly difficult to process. It is an empowering book with great quotes that you might find yourself repeating, not only from the author himself but also from other well-known philosophers and spiritual teachers.
There isn’t anything I didn’t like about the book. I found no errors and can say this book was outstandingly well-edited. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. It is enlightening, promotes self-love, and is well-written.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants to find inner peace in their daily lives, regardless of specific demographics. I especially would recommend this book for fans of self-help and philosophy books, or, simply those seeking an awakening.
