Review of Leadership For The New Female Manager
Leadership For The New Female Manager by Karina G. Sanchez is a self-help book that will aid new female managers in reaching their full potential. Being a new manager is a nerve-wracking and exhilarating task. New managers will encounter several obstacles, such as earning the respect of their team and building their reputation, all while making significant decisions for the company's betterment. This new responsibility seems very daunting, overwhelming, and challenging. But know that you were promoted to where you are because the higher-ups know you are perfect for the role and can rise to the challenge. So, with the help of this book, you will become the leader you want to be. You will learn key concepts to understand yourself and your leadership style. You will also learn everything you need to know about managing your team members to achieve efficiency and create a healthy work environment where they can grow as a person and a member of a highly-functioning organization.
What I liked most about this book is that it offers a wide variety of information. It just doesn’t contain topics on how to become a good leader. It offers the readers concepts and exercises to understand the different styles of leadership, how a leader can adapt to fit the needs of the team members, and how to coach your team into becoming the next generation of leaders. The author is such a great mentor. Reading this book is like personally talking to a mentor. I can hear the passion in the author’s writing voice. It’s very inspiring and empowering.
Another positive aspect is the structure of this book. The first section focuses on learning about oneself to become a better leader for others. The second section is about leading an individual, and the third is about leading a team. I think it’s a great structure because the first section introduced concepts and exercises that could help new managers understand themselves. And as the chapters progressed, the book focused on how to deal with other individuals and a team. I liked that this book largely focused on methods and concepts of how the leader can manage their team because it was said that the team’s performance is a reflection of the leader’s skills. I also liked that each topic flowed smoothly. Most chapters are interconnected with each other in a way that the previous chapter’s last paragraph introduces a concept or a question that the following chapter will explain.
The only aspect I didn’t quite like is that I think the book needs to provide scenarios or examples of the barriers or gender issues that women face when they become leaders. The author discussed barriers if a young manager leads a team with members older than the leader. I think a topic about gender issues would also be a great addition. But this aspect didn’t affect my overall enjoyment while reading this book.
In conclusion, I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars due to the reasons I stated above. I definitely learned a lot. As an aspiring leader, this book helped me figure out the weaknesses I need to work on and how I can better communicate with my team. I noticed only a few grammatical mistakes, so this book was professionally edited. I recommend this book to leaders wanting to learn about concepts that would help them grow as leaders. I recommend this to aspiring leaders. This book would help you assess yourself and the leadership styles you can implement someday.
