In It Together: The Beautiful Struggle Uniting Us All (2nd Edition) by Eckhart Aurelius Hughes is an important work of non-fiction. It incorporates philosophical and self-help elements to provide readers with a foundation for significantly improving their lives and outlook. The author expertly breaks down complex concepts to guide readers through the process of identifying obstacles in their lives that may be holding them back from achieving inner peace. In certain situations, readers may unintentionally create these obstacles for themselves. The author’s encouraging tone and practical advice will help readers struggling with issues overcome obstacles and create positive changes in their lives. This is the second edition of Hughes’ best-selling book, and it includes updates since the release of the first edition.

Hughes has the unique ability to identify common struggles people face and suggest options that can apply to a wide range of situations. Our obstacles or struggles will vary; however, we are all seeking the same inner peace. We each need to identify the struggles we are facing that are keeping us from achieving that inner peace. Hughes also refers to spiritual liberation, which is the process of freeing our true selves. He encourages readers to let go of things that do not benefit them. By clinging to things that do not benefit us, we unintentionally hold ourselves back from achieving inner peace. The author provides eleven suggestions for achieving inner peace. Each suggestion is practical, and Hughes suggests that readers approach them with an open mind and apply those that they believe will benefit them.

What I liked most about this book is the author’s ability to cut through complex issues that people face and identify achievable steps to address these common struggles. The specifics of our struggles or obstacles vary because each person and their circumstances are so unique. However, Hughes identifies common threads that exist in these varied obstacles. Once we can identify what is holding us back, his suggestions for overcoming them are practical and achievable. There was nothing that I disliked about this book.

The tone of the book is encouraging and supportive. I have read this book more than once, and each time I read it I learn something new. It has become clear to me that there are areas in my life where I unintentionally create obstacles for myself. After reading this book, I realize that it will take less effort to let go of the things that no longer serve me than to cling to unnecessary things that hold me back from achieving inner peace. I agree with the author that most people, regardless of background, crave inner peace in their lives. The obstacles we each face in achieving that inner peace will vary; however, the author’s suggestions provide readers with helpful advice that will be beneficial to everyone.

I believe this book was professionally edited because I saw only one error in the entire book. I recommend this book to readers with an interest in self-help or philosophical books. Anyone who is struggling with issues will benefit from the practical advice and encouragement offered by the author. I give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars because it is an outstanding self-help book. It acknowledges the uniqueness and diversity of people; however, it identifies common struggles and provides advice that can apply to a wide variety of situations.
