Most of America’s youthful population tends to postpone thinking and planning for the future. Thoughts of financial security in old age and life after retirement seem too far away to be concerning. E Alan Fleischauer attempts to shine a light on the importance of future planning and retirement plans from a young age with his book Reconfigurement. The author educates his readers on how a few, simple and responsible steps now can drastically change what your future looks like. Alan has been a financial advisor for more than 20 years and starts the book by encouraging the reader to work, save and invest. The author also aims to simplify the process of career testing, investing money, life protection, affordable health insurance, 401K or IRA, and social security. He includes and promotes career assessment tests and recommends post-retirement strategies.

The fact that this book will be extremely useful and practical is evident from its summary, but it is also its biggest pro. It is also a book that’s rare, there are plenty of books about starting your financial journey and getting your career established, but there are few about life after success is achieved and dreams are fulfilled. Through this book, the author also aims to set a positive, can-do attitude in today’s youth, and managed to succeed with me.

He also focuses on the importance of having fun before, as well as after retirement, which sets a wholesome as well as informative tone about the book. The depth of knowledge he provided is so extensive that it cannot be properly summarised or quoted, but it is by far one of the most detailed books I’ve ever read. The author lightens the tone by adding some easy jokes and humor. The cover is also well made and I especially like the title of the book, which is simple, clean, and precise.

While the book is filled with pros, there are a few cons as well. While containing extremely useful information, the author drags some of the topics to the point of it getting boring. While that is ignorable, another thing that I thought could be bettered was the fact that the book was US centered. The general financial advice applies to all countries but I felt that Adding more general information to the book would increase its reach.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars as the cons were not that significant and nor did they hinder the reading experience, although if I could, I would deduct half a star. The message and information that the author aimed to provide were received. I’d recommend this book to most settled, working, US citizens, it will surely better their planning process.
