Review of A Dream For Peace
We live in a wicked society divided into various groups that often lead to conflicts. The most common groups are those that are based on religion i.e Christianity and Muslim.
A Dream For Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah talks about his life journey. Born in Algeria in the year 1938 and later on pursue his medical studies in Bordeaux France. It's not always easy to come across a book like this very inspiring and eye-opening. Looking at the life of Dr. Berrah, I asked myself how many people amongst the current world leaders have the same mentality as Berrah. I enjoyed reading the book, especially the part where the author says that we are all free to follow any religion and respect each other's religion and exist peacefully in society. He actively participated in activities that promoted the people in society and always wanted to help better the lives of those around him. He also participated in several projects including building a cathedral for Christians even though he was a Muslim, this proved that he was a very selfless man with the interest of the people at the heart.
The book quoted various world leaders including Nelson Mandela who said;" I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all person will leave together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal that I hope to live for. But my lord, if need be, it is an ideal for which I hope to live for." Nelson Mandela was one of the greatest leaders in Africa who spearheaded South Africa's fight against colonialism. It outlines the struggles for independence in Algeria where Berrah fought for independence.
If you want to understand the role played by diplomats, this is the book for you. It shares some private conversations between top government officials from different parts of the world in private meetings behind closed doors. While serving as an adviser for the Ivorian president his excellency Felix Boigny, Berrah represents him at the African Union summit expressing Boigny's desire for dialogue between the South African government and the African leaders concerning ending the apartheid rule in that country.
I liked everything about the book, especially how it emphasizes the importance of dialogue in solving and settling disputes to avoid unnecessary force. What I liked the most about the book was the use of pictures to back up the story and the use of simple language easy to understand and follow. While reading I found nothing to dislike about the book for it was well edited and with no errors, it is for this reason that I rate this book 5 out 5 stars and recommend it to all who can read and understand.
