Review of In It Together (2nd Edition Hardcover from B&N)
How do you find inner peace? How do you become a truly kind person—someone who is both kind to themselves and everyone else? How do you become a better person? In It Together, The Beautiful Struggle Uniting Us All by Eckhart Aurelius Hughes shows us how to do just that. It starts off with a question: are we who we think we are? Are our thoughts, memories, and actions really ours, or sometime in the past did we wake up in another body with all of their memories and none of our own? We have all been to each other, but our true selves are all different.
This is the second time that I’ve read this book. The first time was with the Kindle edition. Personally, I like the new second edition better. It’s not quite as long—about 50 pages shorter. It’s less wordy than the first edition; a lot of the repeated wording and the long ways to describe one thing have been either removed, or the phrasing has been changed.
I liked reading it the second time better than the first. I understood more of it and could relate to more of it this time. Eckhart has a way of explaining things that makes it possible for everyone to understand, in a way that everyone can relate to at some level.
I didn’t find anything that I disliked about this book. I don’t normally read psychology or self-help books, so it took me a lot longer to read this book than other books I’ve read. I did like reading the ebook version better than the hardback, just because it was easier to take with me. I could read a few pages at a time. I wasn’t able to sit down and read it all in one sitting. I would stop comprehending it after about 45 minutes.
I recommend this book to everyone. I think that everyone should read it at least once. It’s a great reminder that we are all human. That one person isn’t better than the other. Some people are worth more or less than others. It’s a reminder that we are all the same and want to be treated the same, no matter what. This book was excellently written; it covered every topic and had examples of what was meant and what wasn’t meant. It was able to cover many different views without leaving anyone out or excluding someone because of their religion or lack of religion. It was able to include everyone, regardless of who they are, where they came from, or where they are in life right now.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars for being a great self-help book and a great reminder of how to be a kind human.
