Understanding racial prejudice and discrimination and finding ways to solve them have been major moving forces in today’s way of life. This documentation of the author's life explains how a series of seemingly little oversights in curtailing such happenings can spiral into behemoths as large as war. Obert Holl delivered a masterpiece in this book by combining history, genealogy, and his life experiences into a must-read for any historian or history adept. He explains his life experiences according to the way he felt at each period of his life in a way to convey the surrounding feeling, making the picture clearer to imagine.

Lost Inheritance talks about how the colonization of Africa began, how it affected the previous kingdom that was in place, and how it led to the creation of a nation that had a different computation. It talks about the discrimination that was netted out on the “light-skinned” individuals and the importance of education in any growing economy.

There are a lot of positive aspects to this book. The book tries to bring its reader into the life of a light-skinned Zimbabwean child and the travails that a person would pass through in similar conditions. It details the passionate will of a boy to make it despite all the challenges faced and the route he took to overcome the ever-glaring challenges he faced in succeeding and becoming a man. It shows how one choice or one action can lead to a different outcome, spelling victory or doom.

The book emphasizes the absurdity of racial discrimination and how this can split a nation into two and cause irreparable damage. The chapters in the book are like mini-stories that culminate into a larger story taking the reader on a sort of journey into the past through the author’s lens. It is well-detailed and documented for easy referencing and research.

The book is a good read, from the plot to its execution. I found no negative aspects in the book. The overall experience was excellent, as there were no typographical errors recorded. This leads to me giving the book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. The book is delivered with creativity and an admirable ability to enthrall readers into its world, leaving them with mental images that narrate the view of the author.

I recommend this book to all readers. However, I will specifically recommend it to lovers of African history and related studies. This book is a must-read. I believe this book should be used for educational purposes.
