In It Together (2nd Edition Hardcover from B&N) by Eckhart Aurelius Hughes explores an intriguing and important aspect of consciousness. Why do bad things happen in the world? Why do we find it difficult to help one another? Why are so many people suffering? It has been reported that a child dies of starvation almost every eight seconds. This world problem, as well as all world problems, can be tied to a root cause that involves you and me. This book details how we can search deep within ourselves to discover our true selves, which will aid us on the journey from self-hate to inner peace, love of self and others, and enlightenment. This is the beautiful struggle that unites all of us.

This is my third time reading this book and my first time reading the second edition, and my sentiments remain that it is a life-changing experience overall. I also noted that I picked up on a few things that I missed in my first and second reads. Apart from getting a clearer perspective on the role self-hate plays in fueling our egos at the center of our struggle, I also did not seem to agree with the author's postulations that there is no evil in prior reads. However, this time, I find myself better understanding his viewpoints on this aspect of the book and can see how liberating it is to love and accept things, even the so-called evil, as they are.

For a subject as heavy as this, one thing I enjoyed was how the author employed humor to relax readers on numerous occasions. It can be difficult to confront the truth about ourselves, and it is even harder when we have to separate our real selves from our false selves, which we have been attached to for so long. Nonetheless, the author presents himself as a friendly and understanding voice that will help ease the reader's journey.

The book opens your mind to two-dimensional thinking, urging you to consider both the "two yous" (real and false) when making decisions, and it not only raises thought-provoking questions about temptation, inner peace, and temporal and spatial unity, but it also helps us arrive at life-changing answers to these questions. The author's ability to paint clear pictures by employing real-life statistics is noteworthy. For example, nearly three million people die from obesity yearly, which is self-inflicted most of the time, and this paints a perfect picture of our self-destructive nature. How can we love and help others if we don't even love ourselves? Eckhart Aurelius Hughes gave me quite a lot to think about, and that was my favorite aspect of this book.

Furthermore, the book does not have many negatives. The only issue I encountered was the author's insistence on going over certain points repeatedly. While repetition helps to ingrain the messages into readers' minds, the book did get overly repetitive at times. I must have read about how the "real us" refers to our consciousness more than ten times in different areas of the book. I will say that the author's passion for enlightening readers got the better of him in these parts, but that can be a positive as well as a negative.

Eckhart Aurelius Hughes' In It Together (2nd Edition Hardcover from B&N) is also an exceptionally well-edited book since I did not find any errors in the text. I see this guide as a solution to achieving world peace and believe it will benefit readers from all walks of life. For that reason, I rate this book five out of five stars. While I mentioned an issue, I also pointed out that it may be beneficial to some readers, and it did not affect my reading too much. People who are interested in self-discovery and spiritual freedom will enjoy this book. If you enjoy philosophical books, this will also interest you.
