Review of Dying Well
Susan Ducharme Hoben's book, Dying Well: Our Journey of Love and Loss, is a lovely memoir in which she shares her challenges and life lessons. The author and her husband Bruce Hoben, are the central characters of the novel, and the author begins by describing her diagnosis of a benign tumor known as myxoma, which is not cancerous but might be fatal if not treated right away. Susan bravely overcame myxoma, and she celebrated her victory with her husband and her immediate family and friends. However, as fate would have it, Bruce received a stage IV esophageal cancer diagnosis a few years later. Bruce successfully treated his disease with treatment and medicine; unfortunately, his cancer later returned, leaving Bruce with difficult decisions to make. What are the challenging choices Bruce must make? Will Bruce continue to fight, or will he give up? Only by reading the aforementioned book will you learn the answers to these questions.
This book has a profound impact on my spirit and emotions. The author describes her life story in exquisite detail while writing this book with honest and sincere feelings. I learned a lot of valuable life lessons from this book, but most importantly, I understood that love is the only thing that truly matters in life. This book made me realize the value of time and life and how prudent it is to live in the present. This book teaches readers how to accept life as it is and enjoy it to the fullest. I can't count the number of times I sobbed while reading this book because it contains so many moving components, like love, despair, and anguish. Without a doubt, this book is among the best I've ever read.
Absolutely nothing about this book can be faulted. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and I don't regret choosing it.
As the author's friends stated when they urged her to write this book, it is truly more of a love story than a memoir. This book does a great job of capturing the lives of cancer patients, their fate, and their inner struggle. One of the most valuable lessons I took away from this book is to always live well and die well, and to be grateful for the life I have. This book is exceptionally edited because I didn't find any grammatical mistakes in it. It would be a disservice to the author, who put her whole heart into writing this magnificent book if I gave this book anything less than 5 out of 5 stars.
I suggest this book to anyone who wants to live a life full of hope and love while having cancer or another serious illness that has no known cure, whether it is for themselves or a loved one.
