William Cooper's book - Stress Test, How Donald Trump Threatens American Democracy - is an insightful collection of the author's published columns about central points in Trump-era politics and how they can heavily affect the future of America's democracy.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book: it's easy to follow and well-organized. The chapters always start with a summary of the political context, plus quotes that support the author's opinion, to make the topic of discussion explicit and straightforward. Even with no political background, and the fact that I'm not American, I could efficiently comprehend his views while also learning. My favorite element was the chapter about how jails were affected by covid. It brought to my attention things that I wouldn't otherwise consider part of the political debate, such as the difficulty of maintaining social distance, how many people are in prison just waiting for a trial, and the number of people serving time for nonviolent crimes. The use of imprisonment as a threat to people's health is such an intriguing topic. They are all such evident problems, but I hadn't seen anyone talk about them.

Another topic that I found fascinating is the one about the congress raid on January 6 after Trump lost the 2020 elections. Being from outside of America, I couldn't imagine the craziness of what happened. So Cooper's book was a great way to discover more about the actions and general motivations of those who were present, especially learning that Twitter was the chosen platform to encourage people.

I don't have a single negative to say about it. It's a well-written and well-edited book. William Cooper is a talented writer, and his statements were all based on extensive work experience, constantly quoting the American constitution and relevant information to support his opinions.

I rate it 5 out of 5 stars, as I didn't expect to like this book as much as I did or for it to be as insightful and unbiased as it was. For such a short book, it contains a lot of critical information for those who want to understand more about the scenario.

I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to know more about the last months of Trump's presidency and how he reacted to Biden's victory. As I stated before, you can easily understand the book, even if you don't have a lot of political background or have experienced Trump's government firsthand.
