Coincidentally, there is a huge debate in the world about the retirement age. For instance, there have been protests in France in response to a proposal to raise the retirement age. Another fascinating thing is that I decided to change my career recently, and the message in this book resonated well with me. Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer is a thought-provoking book on financial planning and management.

This book discusses the thorny issue of retirement age. The author points out the current laws governing retirement were drafted when the life expectancy was not very high, hence the need to change how we plan for retirement. The book says that most people are likely to outlive their retirement plans, hence the need to reconfigure. The author has also addressed in detail the issue of career assessment. Apparently, most people have jobs they do not like. But do you just quit and make an impromptu career change? The author has provided useful insights on how to go about a career change. Would you like to find out more about insurance and how things such as disability can drastically change your life? Then this is your book.

First and foremost, I would like to applaud the editors of this book for doing an exceptional job, as I did not find any editorial errors. This added to the overall beauty of the book. One of the most amazing things about this book is how the author is generous with information. He goes out of his way to provide websites and additional books to read. I loved in particular his recommendations on career assessment websites and where one can read about online jobs. It's also important to note that this book was written post-COVID pandemic, resulting in very up-to-date information. I also loved the examples given by the author; some are hypothetical and others real, but they all serve a purpose to drive the point home, and the reader will find them to be very useful.

There is nothing in particular to dislike about this book. The book is a wealth of information, and the reader will find the book to be eye-opening on many issues. My only point of concern is that readers who do not have a background in finance may find the later chapters to be a bit technical.

I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars because of how effective the author has been in trying to address financial planning. The jokes in between the chapters were very effective at breaking the monotony. I recommend the book to readers who want to reconfigure their lives and plan for the future.
