Review of Reconfigurement
Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer is a thorough guide to planning ahead. Planning for what exactly? Well, Fleischauer covers areas such as insurance, career planning, planning for retirement and how to make the most of investments and investment opportunities. The author has been a financial advisor for decades. This means he does an exceptional job of relaying this very useful knowledge to his readers. The topics he covers, such as budgeting, usually result in uneasy or complicated conversations. However, Reconfigurement allows for these conversations to seem more seamless and possible once the instructions are followed. Once readers are able to apply the advice given to their individual financial lifestyle, the approaches examined are understandable.
Naturally, finances and financial management are topics of a heavy nature. Therefore, I started the book expecting to be bombarded with financial jargon that I would have to scramble to find their meaning. Ot was the complete opposite. It was a pleasant surprise when I realized there was little to no use of any financial jargon. Instead there were light-hearted and tasteful additions of jokes and the use of puns throughout all chapters. Not only did Fleischauer provide us with the instructions, he also included helpful online resources and tests. These tests and resources are meant to aid in understanding the topics further.
Reconfigurement was both an educational and entertaining read. After reading twice, I could not find anything that I disliked about this book.
Overall, I give the book a rating of 5 out of 5. The humorous tidbits made the book an easier read than one would have expected stepping into a book like this. The information provided was detailed yet remained light and unambiguous. Knowing that E. Alan Fleischauer has been in this field for decades provided me with a confidence I did not have before reading. Furthermore, the insertion of his own experiences made him a very relatable author, which is something I usually find missing in self-help non-fiction reads.
Some people may put an age limit to when it is time to plan for the topics and areas discussed in the book. However, based on all the information provided by the author, the earlier we begin to plan for these moments, is the more beneficial it will be for our individual financial successes. Therefore, I recommend this book to young adolescents who have started working and are willing to learn about independent financial management.
