In 28 Disastrous Dates: A (Mostly True) Humorous Memoir we follow Poppy Mortimer in her journey to find love. She is a confident, intelligent, and beautiful woman, who knows what she wants and how to achieve her dreams. Unfortunately, this does not translate into her dating life. In this memoir she traverses the dating scene in multiple countries spanning 20 years. Each date described shows the weird, bizarre, and sometimes outright unbelievable ways dates can go south. From toxic personalities, and horrendous hygiene to a guy who loves his dog a little too much, Mortimer includes the various methods one can end up on a date. This memoir has you in stitches from the get-go and even the stories in between (which includes a bit more of her life) have a person glued to the pages.

The flow of this book is amazing. You can read a chapter or two and then take a break. When you come back to it, it is extremely easy to fall back into the flow. I loved the fact that she added personal stories in between that include her moving to different countries, how she grew as a person and how she became the businessperson she is today. Another positive point is that at the end she included important lessons she learned after every date. There were some points I made myself, and some I did not even think about. The dates are very relatable and written in a way that had me gasping for air in laughter and cringing away in disgust. Mortimer does give warning at the beginning of the chapters that can be triggering to certain audiences.

This brings me to the only negative I have and that was the truly disgusting things men have done on their dates. Otherwise, I have no fault and would truly recommend reading it, though make sure to heed the warnings. I certainly learned my lesson after the first one. I do not recommend this book to sensitive readers.

I give this book a four out of five stars for the way it drew me in at the get go and the success it had at keeping my attention. This is a book I would recommend to my friends and my book club because I know I would get phone calls where they would love to talk, through their giggles, about how the current chapter is something they experienced/relate to.
