Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer is a book that gives a thorough explanation of how to reconfigure your life and plan for a comfortable retirement. It is essentially a book about financial planning and how to go about it. This is a compilation of over twenty years' worth of experience and research by the author as a financial counselor. He believes that the financial sector has succeeded in making people believe that they need to work hard and make as many investments as possible to have respectable savings. There are several books available that claim to help readers develop the perfect retirement plan. Most just narrate tales of the lives of celebrities and businessmen who overcame challenges to reach their current positions. But instead of doing that, Fleischauer addresses the realistic problems attached to retirement without proper planning and funds, the various proper steps to take towards retirement, different categories of investments, and reasons people end up working even after reaching retirement age. He even shares his knowledge of market values, which can be helpful to not only soon-retirees but also young working people who are looking to have savings for major life decisions. The main thing that differentiates this book from others is the humble author pointing out the fact that the book can get outdated and can differ from region to region, so people should consult an expert for better and more precise suggestions.

I love the professionalism yet unpretentiousness the author brings to his writing. This was not that useful for me as I am not American, but it has some legs to stand on US soil. Even after that, the concepts of finance it has described are applicable globally, but the policies themselves can vary from country to country. I also find it fascinating that the author seeks to replace the conventional "numbers-oriented" retirement plan with strategies that take contemporary situations into account. This book is a great starter book if you want to get into retirement financial planning. The links provided for further research were also very helpful. I also liked that the writing had a conversational and lighthearted style to it, which captivates and retains the reader’s attention. I was also impressed with how concise the book was, despite the amount of information and puns. While providing important but tedious information, I enjoyed the jokes and meta-commentary. It is professionally edited as well.

This book has nothing that I dislike about it. It is a very good book for beginners and can even be used as a good thesis project for some college students.

I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I would recommend this book to soon-to-be retirees and people who like finance. However, people who don’t like finance might not like this book.
