Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer is a nonfictional guide to retirement. This is a book that is meticulously written by the author, based on his accrued knowledge of retirement in his over twenty years of practice as a retirement consultant and financial planner.

As a veteran in the financial space, Alan has seen many retirees spend their retirement in misery due to poor financial decisions, which mostly stem from financial illiteracy. Many people are aware that the life expectancy of the general populace has increased over the years; not many, however, have foreseen the significance of this in their far, near or immediate future. When the mandatory retirement age of 65 years was set, many people were then expected not to live, at most, 15 years past it, but now that people are more likely to live as much as 30 years past it, it is glaring that the consequences are dire for people who are still adopting the timeworn pension plans. In this book, the author elaborated that one of the implications of increased longevity is that pension arrangements that adequately cushioned the financial downside of retirement in the lives of retirees of the past generations are not going to be sustainable for the more recent generations.

In a bid to ensure that people are adequately equipped with the requisite knowledge and tools to thrive in their retirement, Alan formulated the Reconfigurement financial master plan. The primary objective of the Reconfigurement financial plan is to guide an individual, at any point in their life, to make pertinently right financial decisions in light of present-day reality. Inclusiveness is a key component of the Reconfigurement financial plan, which is why it covers a wide range of topics that should be factored in when making any crucial financial decision, especially that pertaining to retirement. Social Security, income protection schemes, insurance and long-term healthcare policies are just among the factors that the author discusses in this book that should be taken into account when preparing for retirement.

What I liked the most about the Reconfigurement financial plan is that it has an added feature that gives it applicability beyond the corridors of retirement. Enclosed within this financial plan are career assessment tests that can be taken to deduce an individual's compatible career line. Even though I am not contemplating retirement in the near future, the fact that the tests gave me precise results and pertinent career tips made reading this book worthwhile.

A book of such a nature is one that I thought would be quite boring, but that is not the case for Reconfigurement, as the author makes use of a humorous and conversational writing style to make this book easy to read. The clarity of the messages in this book also stood out for me, as the author delivers them in a manner that will be comprehensible by most people with little knowledge of financial jargon.

I liked the fact the author emphasizes the need to consult other financial advisory services when adopting the recommendations of this book. He clarifies that this book is geared towards enlightening, not advising.

There is nothing that I disliked about this book. This book is exceptionally well edited, as I found no spelling or grammatical errors in it. As a book based on researched facts, it has a message of utmost significance in many people's lives. Therefore, for all the aforementioned reasons, I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars.

As a handy guide to retirement, this book will prove useful to any individual seeking to prepare a comprehensive retirement plan, either in the present or distant future. With the breadth of the author's knowledge on display in this book, people seeking to be more financially literate should consider picking up a copy of this book.

Who would have thought that a fundamental good trend can also be the cause of so much distress. Luckily the Reconfigurement plan plugs this hole.

Pensions that has been the backup plan of retirees are quickly turning ineffectual. A more solid strategy needs to be adopted. Good review.
