Most of us have a vague understanding of ‘retirement’, but are we aware that Americans are going to run out of money? Is our retirement system outdated? Is a crisis an opportunity? And what is the way forward? These are questions that the finance expert E. Alan Fleischauer confronts us with in his book Reconfigurement.

In this short book, Fleischauer reveals the rift between the reality and the tradition of retirement systems and informs the reader how to reconfigure their lives at any age, so that they may improve their financial wellbeing in retirement. The author talks about the benefits and the concepts of financial Reconfigurement, and how we must change retirement system that have not changes since the days of Bismarck. He goes on to debunk financial myths about social security and shows the uses of forward planning in the world of finance.

There are many things I loved about this book; the first is the fact that it is written by a certified financial professional who knows what he’s talking about and has more than 20 years of experience in his field. Every single fact stated in this book is backed by statistical evidence from recognized and reliable sources. In addition, the author uses himself, his professional and personal experiences as examples to explain concepts and information. For instance, he mentioned that his financial attitude towards an outdated and unreliable retirement system changed after he studied for the Retirement Income Certified Professional exam (RICP®).

I love quotes, and there are enough of them in this short book to satisfy anyone’s craving for them. The author uses a plethora of motivating stories and examples many of them personal examples he has witnessed in his long and varied career. There was nothing I disliked in this book. It was professionally edited, and I did not find any typos. Furthermore, I have gained great insight into financial discissions for retirement and the principle of Reconfigurement. Considering the entirety of the books content is of a financial nature, the author uses a great amount humor, wit and sarcastic comments to capture the readers interest and entertain. Therefore, I rate the book five out of five stars.

I recommend this book to people of any age who want to learn about finance and retirement plans. This is one finance book you won’t want to put down in a hurry.
