In the collective imagination, the concept of finances has been associated with rich people, entrepreneurs, and corporations, for a long time. Preventing the rest from worrying about these things as if they were alien to a large part of the population. This conception is changing thanks to books like Reconfigurement. Every person has to deal with finances, regardless of the monetary amounts managed, so understanding them is crucial.

In Reconfigurement, E. Alan Fleischauer begins by reflecting on how life expectancy is increasing, reaching 80 or 90 years. This fact has completely changed the reality of finance. Pension plans that thus far responded to the needs of most of the population are ineffective today. Hence the need to consider new formulas, individually, from governments and financial sectors. The author emphasizes the need to be well informed.

Fleischauer draws on all his experience beyond 20 years working as an investment trustee to introduce and guide us through the thirteen chapters that make up this book. In them, he invites us to reflect on different economic concepts, which he presents simply and understandably for everyone. He deals with topics of a different nature, from reflecting on what we mean by income to recommending web pages that can help us in the daily management of our finances. All of them without forgetting issues such as showing the proper way to make a budget or differentiating and evaluating the different pension plans with their respective advantages and disadvantages.

Reconfigurement is an easy-to-read but highly informative book. It is noticeable that the author knows exceptionally well the financial concepts and introduces them in a very understandable way, making them accessible to any reader, regardless of their previous knowledge of finance. All this is accompanied by a touch of humor that makes reading much more enjoyable and entertaining, especially after introducing particularly complex or tedious concepts such as wills, inheritance, IRAs, etc. Furthermore, language use is very natural, giving the reader the feeling of being in a one-on-one conversation with the author. And, in a fast-paced world like today's, it is appreciated that the author does not unnecessarily lengthen the book, maintaining a good pace throughout all its pages. Finally, emphasize that the author insists on the importance of consulting financial advisors and learning about the different laws applicable in each country.

If the reader is not a citizen of the United States, the parts that make references to the policies and types of financial products of the country could be irrelevant, since it is information that doesn’t apply to the personal situation. Even so, the concepts are explained clearly, so it is possible to consult the existence of similar products in each country.

For all the above, I rate Reconfigurement 4 out of 5 stars. Its simplicity in dealing with issues that at first can be very complex for people outside the financial field and its dynamic rhythm, without forgetting its excellent editing, lead me to this rate.

Although the book is suggested for readers between 40-50 years old, it can be an engaging read for people of any age who are interested in finance. I would not recommend it for people who work in or have knowledge of this field, as the issues it covers may seem too basic to them.
