Love is a topic that is difficult to capture in a book. It is even more difficult to try to attempt to convince the [/I] reader [/I] that they should love and forgive themselves. Hughes makes it almost easy to think of yourself in a new light, but does not just paint the world in sunshine and rainbows. Hughes is very aware of the obstacles we all face every day. He is aware of the atrocities of the world we live in. Hughes eggs us, the reader on, to keep going in face of these terrible things. He eggs us to accept and embrace the dark parts of the world. Above all, Hughes says we should love all. This book has helped me establish a better relationship with myself. Aside from what this book has done for me, it is worth noting that the book is also composed well. The author has a great voice and has excellent diction. Philosophy books are not my cup of tea usually. It is hard for me to read a book that is too scared to face the atrocities of the world.[ /I] In it Together [ /I] does not play around. My only issue with this book is purely personal preference. I understand that in philosophical books it is not uncommon for there to be a meta conversation (of the rhetorical variety) between the author and the reader. In this novel, it's a little overdone. I just can't get behind the author pointing out how the book is about to end. Other than that small personal discrepancy, it is easy to give [ /I] In it Together [ /I] a 5 out of 5.
