Review of In It Together (2nd Edition Hardcover from B&N)
In It Together by Eckhart Aurelius Hughes was written from many different perspectives and seemingly well researched. I liked the philosophy behind each detailed thought. This book is all about challenging your beliefs and makes you think about all the what-ifs as it presents present and past values into future thoughts.
My favorite part of this book is when we dive into finding inner peace. This is such a hard thing to do, especially now with the invention of the mainstream media. Everywhere you turn, there's a new worry. This section of the book focuses on letting go of that tension, and worry. While we may never be 100 percent better, we can strive to find spiritual freedom by stopping self-negativity and hate. We find ourselves self-sabotaging, and until someone points it out, we don't even realize it. This book talks of self-love and being kinder to ourselves. Really teaching ourselves that it's okay to love even the darker parts that make us who we are and our egos. But, we can let it define us and how we treat ourselves or others, and that is just so important to realize.
One thing though that I found hard to follow, was the beginning of the book. I later was able to relate to where the author was coming from with his beliefs on why children may still be hungry and struggling, however, I really had a hard time with the connection he was trying to make. I feel like I would have understood this better if it had been placed further into the book. Placing it in the first few chapters made it hard to relate to and also hard for me to want to continue reading. But, once I got further into the book it began to all come together.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a deeper meaning to quotes you often hear and to anyone who needs more meaningful insights rather than our material needs. For me, this book was a very good read if you like books that engage your mind and challenge thinking outside of the box. I would rate this book a 4 out of 5. It was very well edited and doesn't contain grammatical errors so it's easy to read through. I really enjoyed every aspect of this book and even had my 12-year-old daughter read it as part of our homeschooling curriculum to expand her thinking. Highly recommend!
