Reconfirgurement by E.Alan Fleischauer is a book that everyone should read and not wait too long to read it either. Is it ever too early to think about how to plan for your retirement? I think that anyone over age 30 should be thinking about and tackling these important topics. Anyone that has seen their own parents or grandparents deal with retirement and lack of income issues, will realize the importance of tackling these difficult subjects head on. These are things we perhaps would not like to think about or have to deal with but old age sneaks up on all of us sooner than we think it will. We could end up in a wheelchair and disabled at any age so thinking ahead and planning for possible difficult outcomes is just smart.

The author has himself read several books on this subject so he has clearly done his homework. He is highly qualified to write on this subject and it is clearly evident in the book. He deals with subjects that many find boring and tedious in a light and fun manner and that is what keeps you hooked. He infuses the book with personal stories and that makes him likeable and relatable which is appealing.

The topics covered are extensive and varied. Some topics are covered in more depth than others. I think the most important ones are pre-planning for retirement, budgeting, insurance, career assessments, social security, health care, pension benefits, investment choices, 401k, Wills and Trusts. This book, although written by an American, is valuable for everyone as you will possibly find an equivalent and similar thing in your own country. He encourages you to do your own research and to contact your own legal counsel where applicable.

Some very interesting tidbits he touched on were about career testing and I had never thought of these ideas or heard of them before; and having fun before you retire, which is an important issue to stress because sadly not everyone even makes it to retirement or if they do, they do not live long enough to really enjoy it; and another important one is working beyond retirement age in a job you will enjoy. Personally my own father worked in the bank all his life, raised his 6 children and bought a house, thanks to that reliable job and then when he retired, at the age of 56 since he took early retirement, he painted and wrote books to supplement his income. He did not make a fortune by any means but he lived the life of an artist and author that he had always wanted to do.

I rate Reconfigurement 5 out of 5 stars because of the added value of book recommendations for further reading at the end of the book. I appreciate his humble attitude and gratitude expressed for reading his book. He realizes that it is not always the most interesting subject matter but he made it as appealing as he possibly could have. He geniunely wants to help his readers and offers the best advice and guidance that he could have on this subject matter.

This book is suitable for all readers from age 30 but especially from age 40 and beyond as in ones 20s we are too wild and carefree to even think about these things. Hopefully we are thinking in a more mature manner from age 30 and then we can endeavour devouring a book like this. I think it would probably be more interesting to men than women but it should be of interest to everyone anyway. Generally financial concerns fall more heavily on the shoulders of men I think but it should be the duty of both sexes to educate themselves about these matters.
